![]() There is absolutely nothing wrong with topping off that little bit with distilled water. The reason it goes out after the engine is run a bit is that heat from the engine causes the fluid to expand. The low coolant light will not come on right when it gets to the min. ![]() ![]() wouldn't it flash as soon as it went below min? Oh well. The level seemed to be maybe 3/4 inch below the min line so I don't understand why the warning wouldn't have started flashing until just now. but I honestly didn't notice any when I checked the level today. I will also look to see if I can see signs of white coolant leakage. nothing amiss, just the same as this morning. Blue light eventually went off, as normal. Steady blue light, and the red light did not reappear. After 15-30 seconds of idle, the flashing red temp light happened with a beep. Got the usual blue temp light (it has been usual for this light to come on at startup - any temp - and then stay on for a few minutes). This afternoon, leaving work, the exact same sequence happened again. Probably won't have time to do it for a few days so I won't be driving the car until I address it. I got home OK and will add distilled water maybe just to the min line and then get the G12. If you continue to lose it, then you have another issue that needs to be solved. a steady CEL which could mean something as mundane as a failed temperature sensor, which should be fixed but won't keep you from driving the car). Flashing is more serious than a steady light (a flashing CEL means misfire or other more serious problem so stop driving, vs. Adding water to top up is fine, you just don't want to do it every time and dilute the mixture too much.Īnd yes, the flashing red is usually an indicator of overheating. Even here in NC it can get pretty cold so we'd fill the car with water and drive it during the day but drain it at night when it was going to get cold to keep things from freezing up. We have a project car and we were trying to flush the coolant system last winter. You just don't want to have a mix of something like 80 percent water to 20 percent coolant. But maybe don't fill the car up to the max line with water.leave some space to add coolant once you get it. No need to flush or anything after adding the water, as its already mixed in to begin with. Next time you need to top up, add the coolant instead of the water. But a slight dilution isn't going to hurt. You don't want to dilute it too much with water so the coolant can do its job of not freezing when its cold. The mixture is roughly a 50/50 mix of coolant to water in the system. Not sure what the issue was, but hasn't been a problem since. Went to get coolant the next day, and it was back to normal. I thought for sure I would throw a temp light, but didn't. Went to check my coolant and it was WAY low. No coolant light, but CEL, and it said coolant temp low. I had a mysterious issue happen a few weeks ago. If you can't get G12 for a little while, then fill with distilled water for the time being, but add G12 asap. Drive it around and see if it's an issue again. I say, get some G12, dilute it 50/50, then fill the container up in the full area. ![]() G12 leaves a white residue after it dries, helps when there is a leak. Do you see and white residue anywhere on the engine or maybe on the transmission? If so, then that will lead you to the coolant leak. Sounds like you have a leak of some kind.maybe coolant flange (side of the engine), waterpump (though your mileage is fairly low for that).
